North Las Vegas Airport Hosts 2003 Spring Conference

Sixty-two Nevada Airport Managers Association members and guests, representing eighteen Nevada airports, attended the Spring NAMA Conference in North Las Vegas. The conference was hosted by VGT Airport Manager Duane Busch, pictured here receiving recognition for more than 25 years of service to Clark County airports.

Members shared information about projects and activities recently completed or underway at their airports, and there was ample time to ask questions of airport managers and consultants about their planning, bidding and funding process.

Dennis Taylor, NDOT Office of Aviation, arranged a splendid agenda that focused upon helping airports get the federal moneys they are entitled to receive. The FAA Western Pacific Region Airports Division Manager Herman Bliss began the program by stating that “land use planning is one of the most important issues facing airport today.” And that locating matching funds is the biggest challenge to getting federal moneys out to airport sponsors.

FAA staff then provided in-depth step-by-step explanations of the grants application process including procedures, sequence of events and application deadlines and answered questions from airport managers and consultants.

It wasn’t all work, however. In the evening members reveled in “Cosmic Bowling” at Texas Station’s state of the art bowling facilities.
